Few families or students can afford to pay for college without some help. Financial aid often makes it much easier for a student to afford the cost of an education and to be successful. Even students who don’t think they’ll need or qualify for aid are often surprised to find out what they do qualify for.

Financial Aid

The first step in locating aid that might be available to help you pay for your education is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (the FAFSA) online. A PDF FAFSA is also available for printing online. (Use FAFSA code 003658 to have your FAFSA information reported to UT Austin.)

Complete your FAFSA as early as possible after January 1. The priority deadline for summer, fall, and spring is March 31.

The Office of Student Financial Services will use the information you provide on your FAFSA to issue you a financial aid package (several types of aid are available) that may include a variety of awards from grants, work-study, student and parent loans, and scholarships.

Scholarships

Some scholarship funds are available for transfer students, but the amounts are limited. Learn more about applying for scholarships for transfer students.
