What you need to know about Transfer Coursework Requirements
Each UT Austin transfer applicant must complete at least 30 semester hours of transferable credit (24 semester hours for international transfer applicants) before his or her individual admission decision will be made. Applicants may, however, apply for admission before completing the 30 hours (24 for international transfer applicants).
Specific Coursework Requirements
In general, transfer applicants do not have to complete specific courses; in many cases any hours that are transferable will work – although it is a good idea to consider your future degree plan when selecting coursework.
Some majors, however, do require applicants to include specific courses among the required coursework that they submit.
Coursework Requirements for Certain Majors
Business
Transfer applicants to the McCombs School of Business must submit proof of credit or in-progress work for the following four business indicator courses:
- Calculus I (Texas Common Course Numbers used by Texas Community Colleges: MATH 1325, 1425, 2313, 2413, 2417, or 2513)
- Calculus II (Math 2314, 2414, or 2419)
- Microeconomics (ECON 2302)
- Macroeconomics (ECON 2301)

Engineering
Transfer applicants to the Cockrell School of Engineering must submit proof of credit or in-progress work for the equivalent of M408C, Calculus I. Applicants who meet the requirement by the application deadline will receive priority consideration. Applicants with more advanced credit in math and science credentials also receive priority consideration.

Transfer applicants to the Jackson School of Geosciences must be able to meet the mathematics requirements of a college-level calculus course beyond M408C or M408K.

About calculus at UT Austin
UT Austin teaches calculus in a two-semester sequence, M408C and M408D.
- If you submit transferable coursework from a college or university that also teaches calculus in two courses, then you can demonstrate math readiness by completing or having in progress an equivalent one-semester course.
- If, however, you took calculus at a college or university that teaches a three-semester calculus sequence, you must submit transferable coursework showing the first two semesters of the sequence to demonstrate calculus readiness.

Early coursework deadlines for architecture, art, and Pharm.D.
A couple of programs require coursework to be completed by a specific deadline:
- Architecture or art/art history applicants: If you apply to one of these majors, you must submit transcripts showing that you’ve completed all of your required semester hours of coursework by the March 1 fall application deadline.
- Pharm.D. program applicants: If you apply to Pharm.D., you must submit official transcripts showing completion of all semester hours of coursework by the January 15 Pharm.D. application deadline.

60-hour, coursework-in-residence requirement
To earn an undergraduate degree at UT Austin, students must complete at least 60 semester hours of coursework in residence. As a result, transfer students with a substantial amount of transferable, degree-applicable coursework may have to take more courses than their degree programs require.
Some students who began their work in a public institution in Texas may be exempt from this rule. Contact the dean’s office of the major to which you are applying if you have questions.
