Starting over Academic Fresh Start
If you’re a Texas resident and you would like to apply for undergraduate admission without having courses you completed 10 or more years ago considered, you should apply for Academic Fresh Start, an option established as part of the Texas Education Code.
Applying for Academic Fresh Start
If you’re interested in applying to UT Austin as a Fresh Start student, you should follow these steps:
- Apply as a transfer student. (If you attended UT Austin during your earlier studies, you should apply for readmission.)
- Submit transcripts from every college or university you’ve attended by the application deadline. Even if you apply as a fresh start applicant, your complete application must include transcripts showing any college-level work that you’ve taken elsewhere.
- Wait to hear from the Office of Admissions about your admission decision.
- Contact an admissions counselor at 512-475-7387; the counselor will help you consider your options for pursuing your studies.
Fresh Start applicants must meet the transfer deadlines and must have the minimum number of transferable courses. In addition, we consider GPA when making all transfer admission decisions, including decisions for Fresh Start applicants.
Students admitted under the Fresh Start option receive no transfer credit for coursework taken ten or more years prior to enrollment, even if a degree was earned.
