Applying for Transfer Admission
If you’d like to attend UT Austin but you’ve already started your studies at another college or university, you should apply as a transfer student. Even if you already have a degree from another college or university and you’d like to work on another or take additional undergraduate courses at UT Austin, you should apply for transfer admission.
Transferable Coursework Requirement
To be eligible to apply for transfer admission, you must have graduated from high school or earned a GED and have completed or be currently enrolled in the remaining coursework to earn at least 30 semester hours of required transferable coursework.
Details about transferring
Application review
If you’ve officially started your studies at another institution, the University of Texas at Austin won’t review your application for transfer admission until you meet the transferable coursework requirement.
Transcript submission
As part of your complete application, you must submit official transcripts showing all college/university coursework in which you've enrolled. Take some time to review the information about submitting transcripts for completed work and work you have in progress.
Required coursework in residence
Admitted students must complete at least 60 semester hours of required coursework for their undergraduate degree in residence at the University of Texas at Austin. As a result, students transferring with more than 60 hours of transferable coursework should carefully consider how transferring might impact the amount of coursework required to earn a degree.
Contact the Office of Admissions at 512-475-7387 for questions about coursework in residence.
