Applying for admission Submit Essays / Resumes
Select from the following options for submitting your essays and expanded resumes to the Office of Admissions:
- All applicants may submit essays through the ApplyTexas Application. This option is available even after the online application is submitted up until the deadline. Simply return to ApplyTexas, log in to the site, and click the “My Essays” tab at the top of the page; follow the instructions on the site for submitting your essays. It usually takes two or three days for essays submitted online to appear in MyStatus.
- Applicants may submit expanded resumes through the university’s Resume Submission System. You’ll need your Application ID to log in.
- All applicants may mail or fax printed copies of their essays or resumes to us, but online submission is preferred. When faxing or mailing, include your full name and your UT EID, as well as the essay type (“Topic A,” for example), at the top of each page you submit. It may take two or three weeks for items submitted by mail or fax to appear in MyStatus.
Additional details about essay submissions
Help! My essays didn’t show up in MyStatus!
Submitted essays do not show up immediately. Electronic submissions can take a couple of days to appear in MyStatus. Please check your status online a couple of days after submitting your essays, and then contact Admissions if you believe enough time has elapsed for your items to appear.
Essays submitted by mail or fax may take several days, even a couple of weeks as the deadline nears, to appear in MyStatus. Each paper item we receive – sometimes thousands a day – is processed by hand, scanned electronically, and then uploaded to our system. As the deadline approaches more and more applicants are submitting the last items to complete their applications. Getting your essays and other items in before the rush is a good idea.
E-mail is a no-no
Essays should not be submitted by e-mail. If you submit your essays by e-mail, they will be discarded.
Earlier is better
We encourage you to submit all parts of your application, including your essays, well before the deadline. Doing so will make it possible for all items to appear in MyStatus before the deadline arrives – and saving you lots of worry in the process.
