The University of Texas at Austin

If you learn that you’re admitted to the semester for which you applied, we hope that you’ll weigh all your options and choose The University of Texas at Austin as the right place for you to spend your college years.

If you do decide to become a Longhorn, you’ll be given information to help you to take the steps needed to accept your admission at the university.

Admission to Your Major

Many applicants are offered admission to the semester they requested and to the major they requested. However, some students (including some applicants who qualify for automatic admission) find out that they’ve been admitted to the university but not to their first-choice major. We consider applicants for up to three majors, beginning with their first and second choices and then for a third major option: Undeclared in the School of Undergraduate Studies.

Applying to Change Majors

After enrolling, some admitted students decide that they would like to major in a different academic program. To request a major change, enrolled students must apply for internal transfer. Students should understand that internal transfer can be as competitive as regular admission. There is no guarantee, therefore, that applicants for internal transfer will be admitted to their desired new major.
