The University of Texas at Austin 2009 Freshman Wait List
The Office of Admissions has created a wait list for about 250 of the most qualified applicants who were not immediately offered admission to the 2009 entering freshman class.
- Decisions about which applicants to invite to join the wait list were made by the Office of Admissions using the same holistic and individual review used when admitting students to the university.
- Students not invited to join the wait list may not request to be added to the wait list.
- Decisions about the admission of individual students from the wait list will also be made by the Office of Admissions using the application that was submitted to UT Austin by the January 15th application deadline. The enrollment needs of the university will guide the decision of which applicants will be admitted from the wait list.
The Office of Admissions will contact individual wait-listed students if and when they are admitted to the university through Status Check, by letter, and by e-mail.
The wait list will be discontinued no later than May 15, 2009, and those students who are not admitted to the university will also be informed about the end of the wait-list process, no later than May 15, 2009.
The Office of Admissions understands how difficult waiting may be and will begin admitting students from the wait list as soon as we have a clear indication that space will be available in the entering class.
Accepting or Declining the Invitation to Join the Wait List
If you received an invitation to join the wait list, you should access the Wait List Acceptance Form (the form will be available from March 18, 2009, through April 1, 2009) to submit your decision. The form will give you the option to either accept or decline the invitation.
Timeline for the Wait List
» March 18, 2009, at noon: The time and date on which the wait list acceptance form will be available.
» April 1, 2009: The final date by which students should indicate their decision to accept or decline the invitation.
» May 15, 2009: The latest date on which the Office of Admissions will make any remaining decisions about the wait list.
The Wait List and CAP
Wait-listed students who would like to participate in the Coordinated Admission Program (CAP) if they are not eventually admitted to UT Austin should continue with the wait list and the CAP enrollment process simultaneously. Taking the steps required to participate in either program will in no way affect your status or ability to participate in the other.
- If you accept an admission offer from UT Austin after being on the wait list and you’ve also submitted your CAP agreement, we’ll simply notify the UT System university you selected during the CAP process that you will not be enrolling in the fall of 2009.
- If you sign up to be on the wait list and CAP but are not admitted to UT Austin, everything will be in place for you to participate in CAP during your freshman year as long as you have completed the CAP agreement process.
To find out more about CAP, please review the details on the CAP Information page and on the other pages in that section.
The Wait List and Financial Aid
The university understands that many students can make informed decisions about whether to accept an admission offer only after they have information about the financial aid that the university is going to award to them. Although UT Austin cannot tell wait-listed students exactly what their financial aid award will be unless they are admitted to the university, the university is committed to working with students on the wait list to provide them with as much information as possible at each step along the way.
- Students who are invited to join the wait list can obtain a rough estimate of their financial aid package by using the online financial aid estimator at Texas College Money.
- If you accept the university’s invitation to join the wait list and apply for financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 31, the Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS) will e-mail a preliminary aid estimate to you no later than May 15, 2009.
- If you are admitted, a complete financial aid package will be created for you and delivered as soon as possible. (The exact date on which details about your financial aid package is delivered could be delayed if OSFS is required by federal regulation to contact you for additional documentation.)
If you have been invited to join the wait list and you have questions about applying for financial aid, please contact the Office of Student Financial Services.
